the dreaded change

2013 - 2014

as all human beings i dislike change, it was not easy to shove away 30 years into boxes and move 7,404 air miles away from everything i had ever known

starting from zero

$0 - $500

finding work was tough, the first few months i must have sent over a gazillion job application to no avail. disheartened i started walking into shops to see if i could find some work. my luck changed the day i walked into pinto portraits.

Toni Pinto the owner and photographer at Pinto Portraits, was an amazing help, she heard my plight and gave me my first gig on US soil. We created a video showcasing her process to share with potential clients.

one off to part-time

0300 hrs

Soon after wrapping up the pinto project i got a part-time photography gig with Inter-state Studios, Lynwood WA. The job was to photograph school kids for the year book. Because we had to get to the school's before students come in, the commute to work started for me at 0300 hrs.

As per company policy we were not allowed to keep any work for portfolios. But my work day consisted of driving across state to assigned schools, setting up the chroma backdrop, do a 3-point lighting setup, calibrate the camera and be ready to shoot over 80 students in the day, pack up, drive back and transfer/log the shoot into the company software. It was a fun experience which i had to cut short because a new opportunity knocked at my door.
